Christmas is near!
In Großarl the advent and christmas season is still defined by century-old traditions of the Salzburger Land. A peaceful time of contemplation and expectation, with christmas markets full of atmoshpere, contemplative church festivals and traditional cultural events.
Advent singing and advent music, christmas markets and nativity plays are part of the pre-christmas season, as well as the Krampus and Perchten runs, a popular pagan tradition in alpine regions with men, wearing eerie masks, horns and sheepskins.
In order to keep all the traditions in the Großarl valley alive, the Salzburger Bergadvent was founded in 2007. Numerous cultural events for families with children revive the ancient magic of the christmas season.
