Tobogganing: fun for the whole family
Woosh!!! Now we are dashing down the toboggan run ! Wurzl, the Waldhof gnome, has prepared a special programme for you: tobogganing by day or by night: top up your energy after the ascent with an invigorating snack and hot spiced wine in the chalet and then off you go on the torchlit trail under a star covered sky – that’s real fun for Waldhof guests of all ages! Those who do not want to exhaust themselves during the ascent, can go up by taxi. Depending on snow conditions also our “Tuffi”-express chugs up to the trail once a week for a toboggan ride.
Here my best tips for exciting toboggan rides for the whole family in the Großarl valley:
Floodlit toboggan run Großarl
Starting point: Hotel Lammerwirt; a floodlit run on a trail closed for traffic, length: 2,5 km. You can either walk up or go up by taxi-bus. Toboggan rental directly at the Hotel Lammerwirt.

Waldhof-Wurzl’s special tip
Various taxi shuttles in Großarl take you once from the Hotel Waldhof to the starting point of the toboggan run and back to the hotel. The package includes shuttle service, toboggan rental and a drink at the Hotel Lammerhof.

Sledding on the traditional lumberjack’s toboggan
In former times these large wooden toboggans were used to transport hay and wood in winter. Today our guests can take a ride on the old toboggans (up to 8 persons)!

Tobogganing on the Saukaralm
The Saukaralm, the highest mountain chalet in the Großarl valley, is open 3-5 days a week depending on weather conditions and can be reached only by taxi. For hikers, snowshoe hikers and those who love cross-country skiing or tobogganing, the Saukaralm is a popular destination for excursions.
